Reasons why I really really dislike Lana Del Ray:
- Anyone who has to spend that much money on their first music video needs something to distract from the quality of the music. Good artists debuted with awful videos and went on to become huge. She is not one of them.
- She doesn’t have anything even remotely near the vocal talent to sing like the old artists she tries so hard to emulate. (I’ll cry if I ever hear her even mention Edith Piaf.) She is reduced to whispering just to hide the fact that she can’t hit even a paltry fifth above her starting note, her huskiness isn’t a vocal style, (nor, as in the old days, just a sign of poor recording technology) it’s a mask to hide her lack of talent. I sing about as well as she does, and I have a vastly greater vocal range, and yet there is still a reason I’m not a singer.
- Her lyrics could have been written by 12 year olds. In fact, I’m pretty sure I wrote similar lyrics when I was a 12 year old. Again, there’s a reason I didn’t pursue a singing career.
- Her entire persona is fake, carefully crafted to sell to our generation. And it’s not even an entertaining one like Kreyshawn, that you can sorta laugh at. It’s just obnoxious and so presumptuous I just want to smack her.
- She’s fucking full of herself.
